An inspiring legacy development in Te Arai

At Cato Bolam, we take immense pride in creating great places in our community that stand the test of time. One such legacy project is the Te Arai 60 Lot Lifestyle Subdivision and Golf Courses – Te Arai Links. Our surveyors and engineers played a pivotal role in delivering this remarkable development, which continues to inspire.

Recently, the Cato Bolam team visited Te Arai Links to experience firsthand the fruits of our labour. We were proud to return and witness such an outstanding project, which resonates with our commitment to delivering quality development.

A Vision Realised

Reflecting on the journey from concept to completion, Director Michelle Bain at Cato Bolam shares her memories:

“I remember when the project was but a vision. I recall January 2018, walking into a mass of pine trees from Atkins Road—nothing but pine trees everywhere—as we scoped out the proposed entrance road alignment. Today, multiple years, multiple consents, and construction phases later, the north and south golf courses and the lifestyle subdivision are complete. I am in awe of the result. Every detail, every mound of sand, all the wild grasses surrounding the golf courses and roading, everything looks naturally effortless and meticulously designed.”

Survey Manager Brad Mowat describes his initial impression and the team’s experience in the early days of the project:

“When we first arrived, what I noted was a scrappy forest wasteland. Inland from the dunes was all slash from forestry, but I sensed its potential during our Tara Iti golf course visit. We parked as close as we could and trekked our way in. Initially, our team provided data for bulk earthwork and road designs. Then we gathered the data for designing the reservoirs, maintenance areas, and the subdivision layout. Our surveyors were out there on and off over four years, working long, hot days.

The transformation of the finished project was astounding. What was forestry slash is now beautiful grounds with stunning oceanfront access. The 100-meter reserve feels like you’re right on the beach.”

Our team’s recent visit to Rick’s Café and stint on the putting green celebrated our involvement in this internationally acclaimed development. It was a moment to reflect on our successes and the transformative impact of our work.
