The Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity in our Orewa office for an Engineering Manager to lead our high performing engineering team who are key in the delivery of large legacy land development projects such as; Riverhead South, Huapai Triangle, Huapai Country Club and Fairway Bay, Gulf Harbour. You will have the opportunity to work on the delivery of some of Cato Bolam’s biggest projects; you’ll work autonomously on a wide range of residential, rural and commercial developments.

The Engineering Manager we seek will have the technical, professional and management expertise and experience to support the company’s Orewa based land development clients; lead and support a wide range of engineering inputs and be involved providing high quality project management and advice to support desired project outcomes. The relocation of one of the company’s Engineering Principals, with 3 days in office and 2 days remote, has created the opportunity for this role and the invaluable opportunity to work alongside our incumbent engineering manager for a 6-12month transition period.

About You

Our ideal candidate would be locally based with significant NZ experience in all aspects of land development civil engineering; consent and construction phase design, civil contract tendering & management, project management, key stakeholder engagement and team management. You will be responsible for managing project timeframes and budgets, preparing estimates and invoicing and providing on-the-job training and mentoring to team members in relation to legislation, guidelines, methods and practice.

The team is very busy, so it is important that you have exceptional communication skills and are comfortable and experienced with managing both external clients and internal stakeholders. You will either be a Chartered Professional Engineer or equivalent with a minimum 10+ years’ experience.

The successful candidate will have the following:

  • Minimum of BEng, B.Surv or equivalent with 10+ years’ land development engineering experience
  • Be a Chartered Engineer or Registered Professional Surveyor specialising in land development engineering
  • In depth knowledge of local NZ design standards and local implementation project experience
  • Extensive experience delivering large multidisciplinary engineering projects from feasibility, consent to construction and certification
  • Experience working with NZ’s leading land developers and contractors
  • Experience of Project Management/ Design Management
  • Experience with engineer’s professional development, mentoring and on-the-job training
  • Competence with 12D design, Autocad and 12 Synergy an advantage
