The Trust Stadium
The Trust Stadium is a multi-purpose sport and entertainment facility, hosting a broad range of events including local, national and international sporting events, conferences and corporate events, trade shows, expo’s and music concerts. The Stadium operates a public fitness centre, rock climbing, café/bar, changing rooms, headquarters for various sporting codes and community groups and clubrooms for the Waitakere Athletic and Rugby Clubs. It has quickly become an important local landmark and established itself as the social heart of West Auckland.
Cato Bolam has a long history working with the stadium, first providing construction set out of the complicated structure for the builders Canam Construction, later planning services to amalgamate and extend the existing resource consents and recently to assist with the pitch to host a high performance cycling velodrome for BikeNZ.
The existing stadium is 13,000m2 in area with 4,900m2 of pillar free space providing 6 basketball courts, 6 netball, 8 volleyball and 12 badminton courts. All of the steel structure was prefabricated offsite and bolted to the freestanding precast panels which form the walls. This design made the position and verticality of the panels critically important.
While the stadium building and ancillary grandstand were individually consented there was a need to consolidate the consents into one comprehensive application, enabling all of the existing facilities to be assessed and managed as one precinct, better reflecting the operational requirements of the Trusts Stadium. This will enable special events to occur at the Stadium which will have a greater number of persons on site and also more relaxed noise controls. The application required the preparation of specialist reports regarding the effects on the surrounding environment and a high level of community consultation.
How we assisted
Cato Bolam’s surveyors provided on call, three dimensional set out for the builders producing gridlines, intersections and level control, this created ultimate flexibility in sequencing construction and working around onsite obstacles.
Cato Bolam’s Resource Planners have coordinated specialist acoustic and traffic sub-consultants in preparation of the consolidated Resource Consent application and have been involved with public consultation in preparation for the public notification and Council hearing on this application.
