Simon Reiher

Simon Reiher is a Director of Cato Bolam and leads the Whangārei and Mangawhai offices, providing land development advice and services throughout Northland.

Simon is an experienced land and building developer, having been personally involved in residential, rural, industrial and commercial development projects throughout New Zealand for more than three decades. His experience began with hands-on construction work through family development syndicates and has progressed to financing and managing his own projects.

This practical experience has given Simon a strong understanding of development from the client’s perspective, from recognising the potential of a property and working through planning and infrastructure constraints, to managing costs, construction, risk and ultimately achieving a successful development outcome.

He brings this commercial and practical perspective to every project. Simon is passionate about helping clients make well-informed decisions and finding development solutions that balance good design, regulatory requirements and commercial reality. His focus is not simply on obtaining approvals, but on helping clients achieve the best possible financial outcome while also delivering the personal objectives that sit behind many property and development decisions.

As a Director, Simon plays a key role in project management and the company's overall business performance, as well as the continued development of Cato Bolam’s Northland team. He focuses on bringing together the right expertise from across the company’s planners, surveyors, engineers, architects and environmental specialists. This allows him to act as a single point of contact for clients while drawing on specialist knowledge throughout every stage of a development.

Simon is a Registered Professional Surveyor and Chartered member of Engineering NZ with more than 30 years’ experience across surveying, engineering, development design and the wider land development process. His experience has earned him specific recognition for development work from the University of Otago, within the Whangārei and Taupō district councils and has also seen him called upon to provide expert advice and evidence through negotiations, specific agreements, hearings, and Court proceedings.

Outside work, Simon enjoys spending time with his family, or working on his own properties and development projects, which usually means Simon finding an excuse to get on a digger.
