Planning to undertake waterway planting on your rural property?

Auckland Council’s Waterway Protection Fund may be able to assist with your planting costs.

If you are planning to undertake waterway protection planting in 2024-2025, we recommend you take a look at Auckland Council’s Waterway Protection Fund. This fund offers grants to support landowner and community initiatives aimed at improving water quality in Auckland’s rural areas. This funding is available for projects on private land and focuses on protecting and enhancing streams, wetlands, and waterways, as well as reducing erosion and water contamination.

For the 2024/2025 funding round, priority water catchment areas include the Taitaia, Ngākaroā, Hingaia, and Papakura streams, as well as the Oria and Slippery creeks, and the Waiuku, Ōrere, and Matakana rivers. Landowners on Aotea / Great Barrier Island and projects supported by catchment groups will also be given priority.

Applications are open from 29 July 2024 to 06 September 2024.
